Inquiry into Tasmania Police responses to allegations of officer misconduct

Individual experiences

Members of the Committee thank all those providing evidence to the Inquiry. Evidence which details personal individual experiences will inform Members’ understanding of the adequacy of past and current systems, processes and oversight arrangements for responding to allegations of serious misconduct within Tasmania Police.

However, the Committee does not have the power to conduct investigations into, or reviews of, individual cases, or facilitate the reopening of any previous criminal investigations. Such matters received by the Committee may be referred to the appropriate authorities after consultation with the submitter. Any mandatory reporting requirements applying to Members of Parliament will be adhered to.

Sensitive content

Committee Members recognise that the evidence received in submissions and in public hearings may discuss highly sensitive matters and themes that have deeply impacted the lives of Tasmanians and may be distressing for some people.

Adverse content

Some contributions to the Inquiry may reflect adversely on third party persons, organisations or businesses. Through the Secretariat, the Committee will endeavour to contact those mentioned, where possible, to offer a right of reply.
