Macquarie Point Stadium Costings and Governance
In line with section 6(1) of the Public Accounts Act 1970, on 24 September 2025, the House of Assembly resolved as follows:
Refers the following reference to the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Public Accounts to inquire into and report upon:—
(a) the adherence of the Tasmanian Government, Macquarie Point Development Corporation and other entities to all announced delivery schedules and budgets regarding the Macquarie Point Stadium project, should the project be approved by the Parliament;
(b) options to minimise delays and reduce additional expenses for taxpayers;
(c) the appropriateness of the project's oversight and governance arrangements; and
(d) any other matters incidental thereto.
Quarterly Public Hearing Progress Updates
The Committee resolved to conduct regular public hearings with the Macquarie Point Development Corporation (MPDC) and other key entities to ensure appropriate scrutiny over the Macquarie Point Stadium costings and governance. The first of these public hearings was held on Wednesday, 4 February 2026 and future 2026 hearings are scheduled as follows:
- Tuesday, 12 May 2026 (various stakeholders)
- Monday, 25 May 2026 (MPDC)
- Friday, 7 August 2026 (MPDC), and
- Friday, 6 November 2026 (MPDC).
